From the owner:
My Brother-in-law originally adopted Melli from the pound in Michigan when she was a pup. She may be a mix or purebred, but we have no pedigree to determine her heritage. My BIL loved her to pieces and was a bachelor, but his new wife was petrified of dogs, so we agreed to take her in as a companion to my boxer.

Unfortunately, it’s not working out for a few reasons and we want to find the best home possible for her. The primary reason is because my young son has developed significant allergies. His allergies are tolerable, but we are rehoming a few of our pets to help as much as possible. Another reason has to do with our current and near future environments. Melli has considerable anxiety during thunderstorms and around low flying aircraft. She had some soiling issues when she was nervous due to planes or thunderstorms, but we bought a nice wicker/wire crate (included in her adoption) and she is soothed by it and we now keep her in the crate at night and when we leave the house. That fixed the soiling problem.

I would suggest her for older children (who she just loves) and adults. Just not toddlers or any child who might delight in laying on her or tugging her ears.

She is about 6-7 years old and around 40-some pounds. Her shots are up to date and she is spayed. She’s a lovely dog who loves to lay on couches and sleep at the end of your bed. She’s be a great companion to a football fan! She likes to play with toys — especially the ones she can rip up. She currently lives with us, our 3 kids (4,2, and infant), boxer, and cat. She is currently trained to an electric fence and does excellent with it. She loves walking on leash and riding in a car a lot!

Melli is a Border Collie. Border Collies become bored easily, so it will be important for Melli to be given a daily walk or romp in the dog park to avoid common bordom issues such as digging and barking. Border Collies excel in canine sports, and Melli would be no exception. She is not hyper, but generally quite well behaved as long as she has a loving and creative environment. She aims to please and longs for a committed caregiver and a life long home.
